Chosen as the best female contemporary artist by the Blues Foundation this year, Janiva Magness carries a typically rough background for a blues musician. His parents committed suicide when Janiva was 16, and she became an alcoholic before her 20th birthday. She was saved from a total destruction by the blues, giving her a profession and a way to purifify herself.

Janiva has released seven albums, all of which have presented a passionate and strong voiced singer being able to control and carry her listeners through a multitude of emotions. You can hear Janiva's voice also on R.L.Burnside's, Jimmy Buffet's and Brian Setzer's recordings.

Janiva Magness' What Love Will Do, released in 2008 and produced by Dave Darling, is the most high class production of this 51-year-old artist, and got her the nominations for four Blues Music Awards categories.
