8.7.2009 DR. JOHN ANNOUNCES RARE SOLO DATES IN FINLAND AND SWEDEN!THE LEGEND AND HIS PIANO
New Orleans funk and blues icon, Dr. John a.k.a. Mac Rebennack, announces rare solo piano appearances for dates at the Rauma Blues Festival, July 11th and The Stockholm Jazz Festival on July 15, 2009.
His band, the Lower 9-11 is unable to accompany him due to a key band member’s recovery from an unexpected illness. The good Doctor, always at the ready to bring a new prescription to his fans, decided to use the opportunity to explore his Crescent City roots with a more intimate, pure piano infused solo performance.
This past year, Dr. John secured a Grammy Award for “Best Contemporary Blues Album” for his 2008 recording CITY THAT CARE FORGOT released by the Savoy Label Group’s 429 Records. Described by USA Today as “a rambunctious and furious post-Katrina polemic,” CITY THAT CARE FORGOT is both an eloquent and an angry musical venting of emotions surrounding the devastation and lack of response to the Katrina disaster.
